Ridin’ the Rails

The most interesting people travel by train…

…I know, I met them on the trip of a lifetime, coast to coast on Amtrak. Four nights and four days. Jacksonville Florida to San Francisco California aboard three remarkable train routes; Silver Meteor, Capitol Limited, and California Zephyr.

The trip was my return home from a week of travel in Florida. I flew in, and returned by rail. My schedule was arranged with long layovers in Washington DC and Chicago. While waiting for my connections, I wandered about in each city. Once aboard the California Zephyr, I spent two days and nights writing, resting, chatting with people, and gazing at the passing scenery.

The first story about my journey is due for publication in January in ByWAYS Magazine. Until then, here are a few snaps of my trip. Click on the top left photo to see all full-sized.

Your photos brought back memories, riding Amtrak through some of the Great Plains states. Lots of wide open spaces and time to think, not to mention the ability to move around and stretch your legs. A lot less stressful than air travel–if you have the time. Isn’t it amazing the kind of pressure we will submit to in order to fly to a destination so we can relax! Thanks for the pics!

    1. Yes, it’s goofy to make haste for relaxing. I adore train travel. Of course, the Orient Express is on my list – just as soon as I win the lottey.
Thanks for stopping by John. –MaryGo

Mary, you have already won the lottery; you just don’t know it yet. I have no doubt you will make the Orient Express and many other destinations you haven’t even thought of yet.
