CHAPTER 6: England I’ll Be There Soon

I’ve finished planning. I’ve finalized my packing list. Tickets, confirmations, and tech gear are sorted. I’m ready to go.

Thanks to my Mom, reading travel guides, perusing maps, researching food and lodging is my kind of fun. She often gave me the map and asked me to choose a destination and route for one of our many road trips.

It’s a fact. I love strategizing, researching, and planning my travels. I don’t schedule every minute, spontaneous and unplanned are often the best parts of a trip. I don’t go ballistic when things veer off-plot, but I like a general idea of where I plan to be each day. I’ve been preparing for this trip for more than a year. I’m ready to stop planning and start GOING.

A few final updates

The Loopy Shrew in Shrewsbury Shropshire

I’ve added a night in Shrewsbury, Shropshire to my schedule. I’m overnighting at The Loopy Shrew, a pub in the old town central district.

Lovely Cinderella room at The Loopy Shrew

Shrewsbury is one of the places I’ll be staying in a ‘single room’. While we rarely see them in the US, small Cinderella rooms with a single-sized bed are common in England. These rooms are a solo traveler’s best friend. The price is usually lower than rooms with a double bed, and you have the same amenities as a guest paying more.

Another of my single rooms is at Hanover Hotel Victoria.
Their self-description—The Hanover Hotel Victoria is a bed and breakfast in central London and has been offering quality hospitality, and cheap hotel accommodation in London, for over 15 years. Combining a personalized service with comfortable accommodation and a convenient location, we are one of the most reasonably priced budget hotels in London. Their ratings and reviews are very high.

The Greenbank Hotel in Falmouth, Cornwall might keep me in my room all day. Each room has views like the above video. Wow!

Tea plants

In Cornwall, I’ll be visiting Tregothnan. They put the English into English tea for the first time in history. Hard to believe, but this is England’s first tea plantation. Until 2005 tea wasn’t grown on the island.

Their self-description—Tregothnan has pioneered botanical firsts for centuries, nurturing rare plants, shrubs and Camellia Sinensis (tea plants) within our special micro-climate. We began supplying Britain’s first homegrown tea in 2005 and today we continue to create and innovate, inspired by our unique surroundings.

Rick Stein’s, Seafood Restaurant and Hotel, in Padstow is my first Cornwall home. I’ve been told this is the best seafood in England. Oh my, where’s the lobster bib?

One of my must-see places is St Michael’s Mount. It’s a small tidal island in Mount’s Bay. The island is a civil parish linked to the town of Marazion by a man-made causeway of granite setts, passable between mid-tide and low water.

There is so much more to my trip than I’ve written about, but I must save something for my editors, Instagram and Facebook. This is the last chapter of England I’ll be There Soon. Next month begins my stories for, Wow, This is England.

Thanks for stopping by, MaryGo
