London Steam Train Expeditions

Whether you live in London or plan to be there, don’t miss the Steam Dream Trains…

Visit Royal Windsor by Luxury Steam Train

Steam train service every Tuesday from June 4th to September 3rd will offer vintage train journeys from London’s Waterloo Station to Windsor. While aboard indulge in a champagne brunch in elegant Pullman Style Dining carriages.

The train is pulled by Mayflower, an original British Rail locomotive built in 1948. It will be the first time in modern history regular steam service has operated between Waterloo and Windsor.

The journey follows the route of earlier Royal Trains transporting the Royal Family from London to their castle in Windsor. First built in the 11th century, Windsor, is the largest continuously occupied castle in the world and home to English Kings and Queens from William the Conqueror to the present Elizabeth II.

Tickets range from £35 to £85 (USD 58—138) per person for the Pullman Style Dining carriage with champagne brunch. Table service for snacks and drinks is available throughout the train and picnics are welcome. Visit www.royalwindsorsteamexpress.co.uk/ for more information and tickets.

Summer Suppers Steaming Through Surrey England

If you’re visiting London this Summer, dine in a little history. A nostalgic steam train out of London’s Waterloo Station offers an evening tour of the English countryside while serving drinks and dinner in vintage rail cars.

Pulled by the 1948, B1 Class locomotive, Mayflower, in its original British Rail apple green livery, the train heads south, through suburbs of London, past the castled city of Guildford, followed by a steep climb through the Surrey Hills, before descending the Vale of Holmesdale and back to Waterloo via the ancient market towns of Dorking and Reigate.

Prices range from £99—£129  (USD 160—209) per person traveling Pullman Style Dining. A private compartment for four with dinner costs £449 (USD 727). A standard class ticket is £49 (USD 80) per person. Picnics are welcome. The train also offers drinks and snack service. Visit www.sunsetsteamexpress.co.uk for more info and tickets.

You can get an authentic Steam Train experience all over Britain – in Shropshire try the Severn Valley Railway – and in Wales try the network of small steam trains like the Ffestiniog Railway and Talyllyn railway… for a try Thomas the Tank engine experience

    1. Thanks for the info. I was lucky enough to ride the Severn Valley Railroad in Shropshire last August. What a treat. I’d like to ride all of England’s steam trains. I think that’s a good ‘bucket list’ item. 🙂

    2. Thanks Kay. I’ll put those on my list.
